What is nest54?

One place for all your project work—instead of ten different tools

In many teams, work is scattered: files in one cloud, decisions in a messenger, meetings in the email client, tasks in yet another app, and calls in a separate video tool. Add clients and partners, and it gets even messier—everyone uses something different, and documents bounce back and forth by email.

nest54 is a browser-based collaboration platform that brings all of this together. Every project gets a workspace with files, office documents, chat, video meetings, a calendar, a board, polls, and its own dashboard. Everyone in the workspace sees what they need—whether they're a colleague, a client, or a subcontractor.

Organizations

Every company has its own organization with its own accounts, policies, domains, and encryption key. Each one decides for itself who it works with.

Workspaces

The shared space for a project, a client, or a team. Members can be individuals or entire groups—including people from other organizations.

Links

Connect files, cards, messages, emails, and events to one another, so every task leads straight to the right document or conversation.

Features

Everything a team needs—already connected

The building blocks of nest54 work together: an email becomes a task, a poll becomes a calendar event, and a meeting becomes a transcript with suggested action items.

Collaborate

Workspaces—the shared space for every project

The workspace is the heart of nest54. It brings together everything that belongs to a project, client, or team in clearly organized tabs: Dashboard, Files, Boards, Messages, Calendar, Polls, Apps, Members, Automations, and Settings.

  • Members with roles: Owner, Admin, Member, Reader, and Guest (read-only).
  • Add entire groups at once—anyone who joins the group later is automatically included.
  • Custom policies per workspace, such as required two-factor authentication or no public links.
  • “x new” badges show at a glance what has changed since your last visit.
  • Any member can leave a workspace; the last owner hands over to a successor first.

Chat with topics and threads

Every workspace has its own chat, organized into topics such as “General,” “Planning,” or “Structural work.” Plus direct messages—even with people from other organizations, if their policies allow it.

  • Threaded replies, reactions, and @mentions with notifications.
  • Paste images and files with Ctrl+V or drag and drop them in—images open in a gallery you can browse.
  • YouTube links with thumbnail and title, playable right in the chat.
  • Unread counters, folders for conversations, and export as text or spreadsheet.

Video meetings in the browser

Start a meeting with one click from the workspace, the chat, or the calendar. Everything runs in the browser—no software to install, not even for guests.

  • Call specific people: selected members who are online get a ringing call.
  • 1:1 calls straight from the member list, with online status.
  • Guest links with a waiting room for people without an account.
  • Screen sharing, plus video meetings that are automatically linked to a meeting room.

Transcription and AI insights

Privacy-first

nest54 can transcribe meetings on request—but only with the consent of every single participant. Speech recognition runs on our own servers, and the audio is deleted immediately after processing.

  • Consent from each person, guests included; without consent, nothing is transcribed.
  • Save the transcript as a document with an automatic deletion date.
  • Optional AI insights: summary, decisions, open questions, and suggested action items.
  • Tasks only become cards on the board once approved. Each organization decides for itself whether to enable the AI feature.

Real-time notifications

Changes show up instantly for everyone—no reloading required. nest54 keeps you informed about what matters, unobtrusively but reliably.

  • Brief alerts in the top-right corner when something happens in your workspaces.
  • A reminder three minutes before every event, with a “Join” button for video meetings.
  • A notification bell for invitations, mentions, shares, and due tasks.
  • Desktop notifications when nest54 is open in the background.

Organize

Boards for tasks

Boards make work visible: cards move from “To do” to “In progress” to “Done.” Each card holds everything that matters for the task.

  • Assignees with profile photos, labels, due dates, and checklists.
  • Descriptions and comments with formatting and @mentions.
  • Upload files or pick them from storage, and link other cards.
  • Optionally add due dates as reminders to your own calendar.
  • Create cards directly from a file, message, email, or transcript.

Calendars for people and projects

Every person has their own calendar, and every workspace has a shared one. Calendars can be shared at any level—from “free/busy only” to “can edit.”

  • Day, week, and month views, recurring events, and private events.
  • Video meetings with an automatically created meeting room.
  • A reminder just before the start, with a built-in Join button.
  • Sync with calendar apps via CalDAV (e.g., Thunderbird, iPhone, Android).

Scheduling polls and surveys

No more email ping-pong: collect date options in a poll, then add the winning slot to everyone's calendar with a single click.

  • Scheduling polls with Yes, Maybe, and No—guests can vote via link, too.
  • “Pick this date” creates calendar events for everyone, with a video meeting if you like.
  • Surveys with single or multiple choice, optionally anonymous and with a deadline.

Dashboards and home page

Every workspace has its own dashboard with freely arrangeable widgets. Your personal home page shows what's on for today.

  • Key metrics, bar, line, and pie charts, lists, tables, and notes.
  • Data from boards, calendars, files, chat, polls, and connected apps.
  • A home page with unread messages and emails, your tasks, events for the next seven days, and recently changed files.

Automations

nest54 takes care of repetitive busywork for you. Rules are set up per workspace—no coding required.

  • Triggers such as “Card created or moved” or “File uploaded.”
  • Actions such as sending a chat message, creating a card, moving a file, or calling a webhook.
  • A log of every run, plus protection against infinite loops.

Apps and integrations

External services plug into the workspace as apps and feed data into dashboard widgets. Integrations use the open Model Context Protocol (MCP).

  • GitHub: pull requests, issues, releases, and commits at a glance.
  • Figma: browse folders, view large previews, and export as PNG, JPG, SVG, or PDF straight into your files.
  • Google News & Trends for market and topic monitoring.
  • Only read-only tools are enabled; credentials are stored encrypted.

Files, documents & communication

Files and sharing

File storage in nest54 works just like the drive you're used to—except it's automatically connected to your project, chat, and tasks.

  • Versions, trash, folder tree, favorites, and file locking.
  • Previews for images, PDFs, office documents, audio, and video; ZIP download.
  • Comments with @mentions; duplicate files with safe, conflict-free names.
  • Share links with passwords, expiration dates, file drop (upload-only links), and access counters.
  • Access via WebDAV, e.g., as a network drive.

Office in the browser

Open and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations right in nest54—together, at the same time. Compatible with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

  • Real-time co-editing, with nothing to install.
  • Create new documents directly in any folder.
  • Every editing session is saved as a version.
  • Runs on nest54's own servers—documents never leave the platform.

Email in the context of your projects

Connect your existing mailbox—from Microsoft 365, Gmail, or IONOS, for example—and pull important emails into your project with one click.

  • Mailboxes via IMAP/SMTP, with presets for popular providers.
  • “Save to workspace”: an email or attachment lands in the project files.
  • “Card from email”: turn a request into a task on the board.
  • Secure rendering of HTML emails.

Contacts and directory

Your personal address book and your organization's directory in one place—with online status and a direct path to chat or a call.

  • Personal contacts, organization directory, and favorites.
  • Start a chat or video call right from a contact.
  • Sync with address book apps via CardDAV.

Search across everything

Press Ctrl+K to find what you're looking for in seconds—whether it's in a file, a message, a card, or an event.

  • Full-text search in file contents, including PDFs, office documents, and scanned receipts (OCR).
  • Cards, messages, events, contacts, transcripts, and people in your own organization.
  • You only see results you actually have access to.

English and German

The interface is available in English and German—everyone picks their own language. Ideal for international teams and partners.

  • Language set automatically from the browser or fixed in your profile.
  • Choose your date format: based on language, dd.mm.yy, or yyyy.mm.dd.
  • Switching takes effect instantly, without reloading.

Across company lines—securely

Collaboration with clients and partners

Our strength

nest54 was built from day one for projects that span multiple organizations. Partners join with their own company account, clients join as guests—and every organization stays in control of its data and policies.

  • Host principle: data, storage, and encryption keys belong to the organization that created the workspace.
  • Two-step approval: depending on the policy, both the organization and the invited person confirm.
  • Trust policies: collaborate with everyone, only with partners, or not at all—configurable per organization.
  • Read-only guests: can see files, boards, messages, and calendars, but can't change anything.
  • Privacy-friendly people search: external users can only be found if they allow it; email addresses from other companies stay hidden.

Security and privacy

A single, unified permission model applies everywhere—from the workspace to the folder to the individual file. Administrators manage, but can't see content.

  • Two-factor authentication with an app or passkey, optionally mandatory.
  • Files encrypted with a dedicated key per organization.
  • Session management, alerts for sign-ins from new devices, and protection against leaked passwords.
  • Tamper-evident audit log, tamper-proof (retention-locked) folders, and legal hold.

Single sign-on and automatic provisioning

Companies sign in with their existing corporate accounts. New employees get access automatically—and anyone who leaves the company loses it immediately.

  • Single sign-on via OpenID Connect or SAML 2.0—e.g., with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google, or Keycloak.
  • SCIM 2.0: accounts and groups are created, updated, and deactivated by your identity provider.
  • Offboarding with handover of files, calendars, and tasks to a successor.

Hosted in Germany

Operated in a German data center, with nightly backups and regular restore tests.

Permissions apply consistently from the workspace down to the file. Admin rights don't grant access to content.

Strong authentication

Two-factor authentication, passkeys, single sign-on via OIDC and SAML, and alerts for new devices.

Fully traceable

Hash-chained audit log with integrity verification, tamper-proof (retention-locked) folders, and legal hold.
